Phillip Rigg’s Four Success Tips
  1. Work Hard
  2. Follow your passions. Do things you are interested in doing.
  3. Don’t chase after money.
  4. Serve others. Do good things to others, and good things will come to you.
The grammy award winning music director, Philip Rigg, gave us four tips of advice that are going to lead us to success. The first he said to work hard and that is something everyone should do to achieve their goals. I believe, that there is no way for you to achieve your goals if you do not work hard towards them. I think that the second tip is the hardest because I don’t know what to do. I am very passionate for several things but I can’t figure out what exactly I’m good at. The third tip is also something that I have been taught to live by. I was always told that money Isn’t the answer but it does open a lot of doors. So, money is not everything to me because I know that what makes me happy doesn’t always get me paid. The last one might be the one most relevant to me, only because I love doing charity work. I do give back to people and my community but bad things always seem to happen to me but I have learned to accept them as good things. An example of these four tips would be key club. Being a part of key club’s board I have to be on top of a lot of things to ensure the success of it. I also have to like doing it because If I’m not enjoying it it makes it harder for the others to do so too. Doing service events I have to do things without getting paid and I love doing charity work. It gives you the satisfaction to really love what you do. I will continue to use these tips.

“The most important thing you will ever have is good values.”
By: Dennis Prager

The most important things that you will ever have are good morals along with values. These good values will open many doors for you. You may be asking yourself how to acquire such good values, well the answer is quite simple. You just have to know what is right. You have to choose what is right everyday and little by little you will realize that you have become a person who follows the values of life. You will be honest, lively, and overall a good character. Like stated in the past people are more attracted to people with good moral values. You will most likely get more job offers and things of that sort. I will look more into him and live by this.

“ In any moment of decision, the best thing you could do is the right thing.”
By: Theodore Roosevelt
When it comes to choosing the right many will say they will or that they already do. I belief that that is not always the answer to everyone’s questions. That is surely the answer to most of my decisions but not all. Sometimes I do really reckless things without thinking and that shouldn’t be my primary response. When I have to think of something I’m very lenient and accept the consequences but do regret it. For example, one time I had to make the decision to simply tell my sister that it’s wrong to leave her plate in our room, because that was the right thing to do. Instead if doing so, I decided to throw the plate to her bed and it just so happened that it hit her in the knee. I felt so bad because I didn’t want to throw it at her just her bed. That is a perfect example of what this statement is telling us not to do. I should have told her to take her plate to the kitchen rather than throwing it at her. Although it was the wrong thing to do, I accepted the consequences, which were having to tell her sorry, but that made my conscience suffer a little bit. Now whenever I see her on her bed or eating in our room my conscience reminds me of my wrong actions. I sure wish I would have thought of this statement back then but now I know. With the knowledge of this statement I will now think twice of what is right to do and do it.

“ Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong.”
By: Wilford Woodruff
Like Mr. Woodruff said, nothing good is EVER gained from doing wrong. The only thing that is earned is a bad reputation. I believe that because people will associate your name from that wrongdoing. You have to know what it means to be good and that means to have a good reputation. You have to be clear from all those negative things that can be out in your record. The reason for that is because if you do something bad it's going to prevent you from getting a job going to conventions. An example I could think of for this statement is just that. If you ever want to go to a convention, as an adviser, you have to get a background check. If you were a reckless teen and drove drunk and accidentally hit someone that doesn’t only go in your record but you also get a DUI and maybe face time if it was that bad. That is why you have to steer clear from such actions that can mess with your future. A bad action like that can keep you from reaching your goals and leaves with nothing good. I will incorporate this into my daily life because I see it as something necessary in life. You don’t want anything bad happening to you therefore you will only do good.

“It’s A GREAT MOMENT when someone has character to step up and do the right thing at the right time.”
by : Pam Knox

Whenever you are faced with a situation where you have to choose between the right or wrong there should be no question as to what is right. You should choose the right all the time. That is why you have to always keep an eye for what isn’t right. You could make sure that when you see something wrong you need to, as a CTR person, make it right. An example I could think of is related to bullying. If you see that someone is getting bullied don’t just stand there and do nothing you have to make sure that the victim is okay. You have to go up and talk it out or even stand up to them. I know that the chances of someone actually getting to experience this is not great but that's why you have to do it when the time comes. If you are placed in that position, don’t waste time and take action to do what is right. I’ll make sure to do this because I know it’s right.

“I have been asked what I mean by ‘word of honor.’ I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls-walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground- there is a possibility that one way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I’d die first.”
By: Karl G. MAESER
This is a very long and wordy statement by the professor. To concise what he is trying to say, is that you should keep your word no matter how silly or insignificant it may seem to other people. If you tell someone that you are going to do something then you need to make sure to keep your word no matter how small it may seem. Like his example was comparing a prison and a chalk circle. The difference is the level in which society sees these two. Jail is seen as this system that is highly secure and respected by others. A circle made from chalk is nothing most people will just step on it like a crack in the sidewalk, and that is why he uses that. To show that no matter how insignificant you use your word for it is still important. It is a good way of letting people know that you are a good person and will keep your word regardless of the circumstances. That is what I have interpreted from this statement. I would like to use a parent and a friend. If you tell your mom that you are going to the movies and she lets you go you have to go to the movies. If your friend decides to go to the park then you have to say no because you asked to go to the movies not the park. It may seem little but you gave your word so you have to follow through.
