Thanksgiving is a National holiday. The first ever thanksgiving was celebrated on 1621. The celebration lasted three whole days. Those days were spent eating, hunting, and other entertainment. The holiday began as a celebration to commemorate the pilgrim’s first successful harvest. The colonist Originally, their intentions were not to start a holiday. It wasn’t until the year of 1789 when George Washington announced the festivity as a National holiday. It just happened to be announced on Thursday, November 26th. The holiday failed to propagate properly and it wasn’t until the 19 hundreds when a writer that goes by the name of Sara Josepha Hale began to voice out the holiday. She began on the year of 1827 and her campaign didn’t show any success until the 19th century. Along with her campaign she also published recipes for some of the most popular dishes served today. Abraham Lincoln made it the last Thursday of November. Then it was changed to the second to last Thursday to give employees enough time to save for the holidays. Then recently it was changed to the fourth Thursday where it lies today.
