A dental assistant works alongside a dentist. What a dentist assistant does is take x-rays and aid the dentist during surgery. A dentist assistant will also schedule appointments and records them as well. A dentist assistant also care of the patient. They will put water into their mouths, when dry, adjust the chair to the patient’s comfort, and will go over the payments with the patient towards the end. The dentist assistant will also had the dentist their tools and organizes them before and after the appointment. A dentist will work in a dentist’s office. Their work schedule will depend on the doctor’s schedule.
Salary: A dental assistant will make $35,980 a year.
Education: To become a dental assistant you will need to take part in a dental program that lasts about 2 years. Some states don’t require any education. These people who lack formal education often are taught by other dental assistants in the office.
Demand for this profession: This profession is expected to grow by 18% in 2024.
Reflection: Being a dental assistant requires close to no education but like a dentist deals with teeth and that makes me uncomfortable. Being a dental assistant also doesn’t pay that well.
