Duties and responsibilities
A dermatologist work on treating, diagnosing, and preventing skin diseases or conditions. A dermatologist works with skin conditions such as acne, dandruff and sometimes cancer. What they do is remove the skin where cancer is present and send a sample of it off to biopsy. Dermatologist don’t only work on skin care but beautifying the skin as well. They perform botox to enhance perfect appearance of the skin, especially the face. They do this by removing moles, warts, and legions. A dermatologist will work independently or along other dermatologist. If they choose to work independently they regulate their own hours but most of the time they work normal hours between Monday through Friday.
Salary: Dermatologist make $300,000 a year.
Education: To become a dermatologist you will need to have at least eleven years of education dedicated to medicine. Four of those years will be spent getting your bachelors. Four more years getting your medical degree and the last three will be spent on residency training. Lastly you must pass a USMLE exam.
Demand or need for this profession: The dermatology profession has been declining by about 2% each year. It is projected to grow by 18% during the years 2014-2024.
Reflection: I guess it would be fun to be a dermatologist because it’s not much you have to do. You only treat and advise you patients. It also pays well for all those years spent in medical school.
