“ We learn to do by doing”

The quote by Spencer is exquisitely true. It explains why so many people know how to do things and are good at what they do. People aren’t just born knowing what to do. If that was the case then there would be no point in school, but that is not the case. People actually have to give it a shot before saying they can’t or can do it. If you tried something you thought you weren’t good at and find out you really are good at it then now you know. This quote also reminds me of the other quote where it states that practice makes perfect. If you don’t try or practice you will never do it. You could be the best at something and not know it because you haven’t tried to do it. If you try it and you see that you truly aren’t any good at it you have to keep trying. Learn from your mistakes. This quote also hints at this fact. You have to learn while you’re doing what you’re doing. If it’s your first time don’t give up because you didn’t do it right, that’s why you tried to learn from your mistakes. If you still aren’t any good at it then you know that that is not for you, but you never would have known if it was for you or not if you wouldn’t have tried. I am an example of this quote. When i was a freshman I did not know how to swim. I mean I did but as long as I was able to touch the floor and that isn’t really swimming so I don’t count that as swimming. Then my P.E. teacher taught a group of my P.E. class and then took us to the deeper side of the pool. I was still afraid to let go of the wall until actually did. I almost died but that’s fine because for one I didn't really died and two I know how to swim now. I even jumped off the diving board like three times.

Emergency Medical Technician

Duties and Responsibilities

An emergency medical technician is also known as an EMT. An EMT will usually answer 911 distress calls along with a paramedic. An EMT will work behind the ambulance and care for the sick and injured. An EMT has to work fast and logically for the patient’s life depends on how quick reacts. An EMT will also help transport the patients to medical facilities, where the patient will be taken care of and diagnosed. An EMT will record the medical treatments and cares of the patient and share them, with the doctors and other medical staff. An EMT will then clean up, replace and take inventory of  the equipment used to treat the patient when done. Although most EMTs work on the ground others work in helicopters and airplanes.

Salary:An EMT will make $31,980 a year.

Education: To become an EMT you need to complete a postsecondary educational school. An associate’s degree is needed in medical technology. You will also need to be licensed. You will also need 150 hours of specialized training.

Demand for this profession: This profession is expected to increase by 24% in the year 2024.

Reflection: I would like to be this because it requires you to act quickly and I like to think I’m very good working under pressure. There is also little education required and the pay is not that bad.

“People don’t change they get used to their surroundings.”

This quote means that people’s surroundings affect the person’s personalities. If you surround yourself with negative people you will be drawn to those negative things. If you choose to do those bad things you will follow a life where your decisions are bad. If you have positive vibes around you will be a better person. Having those positive people around will make you question your ways and start to rub off on you. So when people do things a certain way it's hard to reprogram yourself. You need to surround yourself with what your goal is.For example if you want to start doing good in school because you are tired of being a bad student you need to end all associations with those negative vibes. You need to start surrounding yourself with people who do their homework and work. You will then do it with them and  then little by little you’ll realize that you’ve grown into what their goal was because they were surrounding themselves with those vibes the whole time. You then start thinking that that person was in you the entire time. You didn’t become a different person you simply changed your habits. You are still the same person you were a year ago, two years ago, yesterday. This is true to me because people used to say I changed and that i wasn’t the same person anymore. I just started to really listen to my brothers and kind of mimic their actions. I started to become a more family person and value little things I took for granted. In a way became a more open person because i communicated better with them. I just love the fact that i came up with something truly believe in.

Ear Nose and Throat Doctor

Duties and Responsibilities

A doctor that specializes in the ear, nose and throat is also called an ENT. An ENT is a physician who specializes in the surgical and medical aspects of the ear, nose, throat, and parts of the head and neck. An ENT will specialize in diseases involving the nose, ear, nasal passage, voice box, oral cavity and the upper mouth and nose. An ENT is one of the oldest medical professions in the United states. With that being said there are places where others choose to specialize in like otology, pediatric otolaryngology, head and neck area, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, rhinology, laryngology, and allergies. The more specialized ENTs work mainly on their field but are  still expected to know how to treat basic symptoms. An ENT can expect to view at at least 40 patients a day. That changes depending on where you work. You could choose to either be a private ENT or work in places like a hospital, or other medical associations .

Salary: An ENT could make up to $400,000 a year.

Education: You have to attend a medical school and score well on the MCAT. You will also need to have clinical experience to become familiar with the field. You then need to have four years of education and have to choose the field to specialize in. Since there are different fields the time it take differs. You will also need to complete a residency for 3-4 years. After that you need special training for  year.  You will then have to renew your licence every 7-10 years.

Demand for this profession: This profession is to grow 14% in 2020.

Reflection: I would not be okay with this because you have to go to school for several years and that, frankly, is too much. The pay is good though.

“Obedience is central to becoming, being, and remaining happy.”

    If you want freedom and think you deserve it you should be obedient. Being obedient is listening to your parents and older siblings even though they might be completely wrong. When you listen to what they have to say you let them know you could take orders behave properly. You also build up this trust. Later on they will let you go out with friend, use your phone, and best of all sleep. Your parents will give you freedom because they trust you. With freedom you will be happy because you will be given the liberty to do, almost, as you please. When you do what you want you will feel happy because you have less restrictions than your other friends already. All this for doing what you are supposed to. You will also be choosing the right and with those decisions you will feel better and happier already. I truly believe this because my parents give me an extensive amount of freedom. I’m allowed to go out with my friends as long as I clean. If I don’t clean then I will get in trouble and not be able to go out. For example, there was this time where my friends wanted my sister and I to go to the store with them but since I didn’t clean i couldn’t go. Then there was this other time where my mom did let me go because i had already cleaned and done my homework. This example just comes to show the truth behind this quote by David Bednar.

LAUSD Student Services 

     Lausd allows the students access to school menus,and student transcript. Along with access to menus and transcript you have, both, a digital library and a list of L.A. public libraries. If you find yourself needing a book or internet access you could simply go to a public library. If you don't feel like going to a public library, you could go online to the lausd.net website and go to students to find a link to a digital library. You could also obtain information about bullying, transportation and athletics. There are also three links to information about after school programs. Lausd also offers online courses. If you want to get ahead, retake classes, or make up credits you could do so. All you need to do is go on to lausd.net and click on students. They have college prep classes, advanced courses and even high school electives. If you are going to college lausd could help you on that too. They have this link that takes you to a page where they are going to help you see which college is best for you. Along with that you have several other links that PSAT and SAT information, tips, A-G guide, and access to grants. I mean how easier could it get. I, honestly, think it is great to have access to all these resources. I will be looking into the online courses because they will benefit me later on in school. I'll be killing two birds with one stone. I will also be looking into the menus because its a way of being ahead. Anyways, whats wrong with being informed earlier. 

"Choosing the right is always the right thing to do."

     If you choose the right there is no chance of life doing you wrong. When doing the right thing nothing will go wrong because you did everything like it was supposed to be done. There is a saying where people who are lazy do things twice. Being lazy is choosing the wrong, if you think about it. When you do wrong there are always going to be consequences maybe not right away but there is. Alex Linares said that choosing the right is always right and I know its a true statement because when you do right you don't have to worry about doing anything wrong. You will be liberated from anything that could go wrong because you didn't choose the wrong. You then were able to avoid a lot of trouble by doing it right the first time. I know this to be true because when I do things in a sluggish way I tend to have to do it again because something bad happened. For example, I am terrified of Jerusalem crickets. I usually have to throw the trash away during the night which is the time of the day for the crickets. I run and sometimes don't even make the trash in the garbage can because of my fears. Then i have to go back and actually make it inside the trash can and spend more time outside, in the dark. This could all be avoided if I wasn't lazy and if I did it while the sun was still up. Anyways, if you choose the right you save yourself from a lot of unnecessary trouble.   

Dermatologist

Duties and responsibilities

A dermatologist work on treating, diagnosing, and preventing skin diseases or conditions. A dermatologist works with skin conditions such as acne, dandruff and sometimes cancer.  What they do is remove the skin where cancer is present and send a sample of it off to biopsy. Dermatologist don’t only work on skin care but beautifying the skin as well. They perform botox to enhance perfect appearance of the skin, especially the face. They do this by removing moles, warts, and legions. A dermatologist will work independently or along other dermatologist. If they choose to work independently they regulate their own hours but most of the time they work normal hours between Monday through Friday.

Salary: Dermatologist make $300,000 a year.

Education: To become a dermatologist you will need to have at least eleven years of education dedicated to medicine. Four of those years will be spent getting your bachelors. Four more years getting your medical degree and the last three will be spent on residency training. Lastly you must pass a USMLE exam.  

Demand or need for this profession: The dermatology profession has been declining by about 2% each year. It is projected to grow by 18% during the years 2014-2024.

Reflection:  I guess it would be fun to be a dermatologist because it’s not much you have to do. You only treat and advise you patients. It also pays well for all those years spent in medical school.

"What you are as a person is far more important than what you are a basketball player."

     When the wizard of basketball said that being a good person is far more important than being a great basketball player he meant that being a good person will take you farther. Being a good person will reward you in a way that the fame in being a basketball player would not. When you are a great basketball player you will make an abundance of money but like mentioned, many times, before money can't buy happiness. When you do good you will feel good and sure you may feel good after winning but if you win without doing it the right way you will feel wrong. If you win by cheating and being a person who chose the wrong you will still be rewarded by winning but you will; feel guilty when you realize that you won for the wrong reasons. When you are a good person and win because of your skills you will be rewarded twice. One for actually winning the game and the other for winning the right way and not cheating. What's the whole point of being the best basketball player if you cheat. If  you're going to have top play anyways do it the right the first time and feel right. Being a good person is far more important because you have integrity and those who think that skill is better than being a good person you have your reasons. An example of  this quote would b if you decide to cheat you are filled with the guilt of doing the wrong thing. If you loose but did the right thing you will feel good for doing the right, even though you lost. 

Lawyer

Duties and Responsibilities

A lawyer is a person who represents a person, business, or agencies in a court of law. Lawyer will communicate with their clients on the issues and then conduct research on the legal issue. A lawyer has to be very familiar with the laws, for they have to interpret them at court in the client’s favor. A lawyer will also aid in the writing of deeds, contracts, lawsuits and wills. A lawyer will then present all the information he or she has obtained from the client and research to the court.

Salary: A lawyer will make $115,820 a year.

Education: To become a lawyer you must have a law degree and pass a written bar given to you by the state. It will usually take 7 years of additional school, after high school.

Demand for this profession: The demand for this profession will increase by 6% by the year of 2024.

Reflection:cti I would love to become a lawyer in the near future. I’ve always been into history especially world history and to be so familiar with it would be delightful.

"True wealth is of the heart, not of the purse." 

Pathros

     To be wealthy doesn't only mean to have money, it could be wealthy in happiness like it is on this quote. Sure money may seem the only way to being wealthy, but the real reward is how you feel. You could be the wealthiest person but not feel right. When you do right you will feel right. That feeling of doing the right will be on your mind and you will just be delighted. Money can't buy happiness, therefore money isn't everything. Everything is being a good person. If you are a good person you will be happy and happiness can't be obtained with money. Your conscience will remind you of your good deeds and make you a better person. You will be so content with yourself that you will not mind doing the right thing. Money only lasts so long but the feeling of doing good will always be with you. If you think about it, being happy is free, being nice is free, doing the right is free, and being a nice person is free. Karma works in a way where if you do good you receive good. The reward for doing good might be money, better job, clothe or anything lavish. An example of this would be if you hold the door for someone you will be rewarded in the future. The feeling of doing good will also be in you. If you laugh when someone falls and don't help them up you will most likely feel bad . Not only that but you might fall even worse.  

Dental Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities

A dental assistant works alongside a dentist. What a dentist assistant does is take x-rays and aid the dentist during surgery. A dentist assistant will also schedule appointments and records them as well. A dentist assistant also care of the patient. They will put water into their mouths, when dry, adjust the chair to the patient’s comfort, and will go over the payments with the patient towards the end. The dentist assistant will also had the dentist their tools and organizes them before and after the appointment. A dentist will work in a dentist’s office. Their work schedule will depend on the doctor’s schedule.

Salary: A dental assistant will make $35,980 a year.

Education: To become a dental assistant you will need to take part in a dental program that lasts about 2 years. Some states don’t require any education. These people who lack formal  education often are taught by other dental assistants in the office.

Demand for this profession: This profession is expected to grow by 18% in 2024.  

Reflection: Being a dental assistant requires close to no education but like a dentist deals with teeth and that makes me uncomfortable. Being a dental assistant also doesn’t pay that well.

"You cannot do wrong and feel right. It is impossible "

      When you do wrong your conscience will remind you of your actions. That means there is no way you are going to feel good for doing something you know was wrong in the first place. If you do something wrong thinking it was right you might not feel bad at all. Now, when you find out you did wrong you are going to feel bad because now your conscience will remind you of your  actions. If you ever feel good for doing the wrong thing you might lack a conscience. The quote also states that it is impossible. The second part of the quote is a reason of why we feel bad because a lot of us have a conscience that will remind us of our actions. Doing wrong will, or might, bring regret to your life because you will realize the consequences your actions have caused. No wrong ever goes unpunished. That again is a reason of why feeling good for doing wrong is impossible. For example, if you hit a person with a ball and they get hurt you are going to feel guilty for the pain you gave them. There is no way you are going to feel good because you know it was wrong to hurt them. It will now remain in your conscience that you hurt someone.
