“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”
By: Thomas Carlyle

In this statement he compares us to these ships where our goals are what keeps us going. If you think about it for a second you will see that it is true. As a child we had dreams and aspirations in life that motivate us to become whatever we want. I see this statement as much more. I think that he is comparing something so little compared to the size of the ship that almost nobody thinks it is important when wanting to get on a cruise. The same happens when a person is wanting to be successful. We often don’t think that goals are important we look at the bigger picture. The thing is that in order to be successful you need goals just like the ship needs that rudder, It may seem unimportant but It is the only thing that will drive you to where you want to go. That is just my example of why I think our goals and dreams are rudders in the eyes of Thomas C. I plan to continue to keep this statement in mind even though I am not a ship enthusiast.
Memorial Day Weekend
This weekend we were allowed an extra day off of school. I was unbelievably busy this weekend as I was helping out my community at the fair. My job was to supervise as well as assist in the cleaning of the fair. My first shift was fon the Friday we were dismissed from 5pm -10pm. It was pretty fun. There really wasn’t any trash. The Saturday I had to get up early and go to church. After church I had to race back to my house and change into close that was suitable to clan in all day. I didn’t even have the chance to take off my make up. I actually ended up taking my little sister and while we were on break we went inside the petting zoo. It was pretty boring because I was scared of touching the animals. After we were done going over the fair twice we were able to get on some rides. After the fair my sister and I had to change to go to a party. At the party I was sleeping, which I really regret because it bothered my mom. Sunday morning I had to go to the fair early but we had some setbacks which took quite a while to recover from. I was in charge by myself until one of my members took charge along side me. We ended up taking both shifts so we worked from 12am all the way to 10pm. We helped this lady sell her organic lotions. The highlight of that day was going under the stage where people we ingin live to retrieve a table. It was pretty cool. On Monday I took a break from the fair to catch up on homework. It was a pretty productive weekend.

“When a deep injury is done to us we never recover until we forgive.”
By: Alan Paton

I like to believe that there is nothing worse than envy and resentment. In this statement Alan Paton clearly explained the route out of resentment. He stated that forgiveness is the only way to recover. I completely agree with this because if you don’t forgive then you are always going to hold on to that. If you want to hold on to something bad that some other person did to you it is completely fine. The only thing to remember is that is only going to set you back. I like to think of God when forgiving. The Lord is merciful and he will not leave us there he will forgive us so that we grow and learn from our mistakes. He wants us to be the best people we can be and for that we need to learn how to forgive. If we are able to forgive we can not only brighten our day but somebody else's’ day as well. A more specific example would be when someone goes behind your back and says something mean about you. You will not talk to that person because they lost your trust but also because you feel bad that they would do something like that. The other friend feels bad for doing that but you decide not to forgive them . That will only hurt you in the long run because it will be in you that you didn’t give them a second chance but Jesus died to give us a second chance. That is when we have to realize that we shouldn’t hold grudges or the feeling of hatred. We are all born to love and forgive each other. That is just the way I look at it. With that said I will continue to live with my mentality and Paton’s view on life.

“Dare to do right.”
By: Rex D. PINEGAR
Doing or choosing the right is never the easiest thing to do. When we are growing up we want to show that we are tough, that we are more than others and we do things that we might not realize how dangerous they really are. Rex D. Pinegar wants to show us that we can really affect others by choosing the wrong as he did when he was a seven year old boy. As a boy he wanted to prove that he was the fastest boy in school so he was dared to run across a street before a car passed. He chose the wrong by accepted the dare and running across the street. He got hit by the car and was knocked unconscious. His example just comes to show how powerful dares are. He, like Thomas Monson, daring us to what is right. It is a bit different in the sense of the wording that they chose but what I think that Pinegar is telling us is that instead of accepting the dares that may lead to failure or may hurt someone follow the dares that will make you better. An example of a good dare is wearing your uniform, going to work/school everyday,  Those dares will make us better people as they are encouraging us to do the right thing. When it comes to doing the wrong thing we want to avoid that now that we are all going to dare to be good. An example of choosing the bad is jumping off anything, hurting someone, or even bother someone can be disastrous. I had already promised to dare to live a CTR lifestyle. I have somewhat completed this as I do not always

“ Dare to stand alone.”
By: Thomas S. Monson
Thomas S. Monson doesn’t mean to be completely alone. He means that you need to be alone when the people around you are doing the bad. You need to dare being alone while doing the right then to be with other who are doing nothing but choosing the wrong. I have seen several statements related to this one prior to this but Thomas S. Monson’s wording stood out more than the others. When I saw that he dares us to be alone I thought it was so different. The way IO think others will interpret this is that he is telling you to do something even though you don’t want to do it, because that is the literal meaning of a dare.I also thought it was funny because he is telling you to do something maybe you don’t want to by daring you while telling you not to do what others are doing because that is what you might want to do. An example if this quote, or statement, is at a wild party. If you are at a party where everyone else is drinking and smoking that is where the dare part of this quote comes to play. You are dared to not drink and choose what is right rather than to be part of a crowd and choosing the wrong. I actually like this statement because of how different it is but is still able to convey the same message. I, personally, think that this quote is going to impact me in the long run.

“ If I’ve got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else will fall into line. If I do the right thing then I’m going to succeed.”
BY: Dan Dierdorf

What the former offensive lineman is trying to say that If you dream plausible then there is no chance that you will ever fail. If you dream something then you have to work your hardest to achieve it. You have to keep it on your mind until you accomplish it. An example I could think of is picking a university. You could choose a University because you like it, then you have to dream it and make it a goal. You have to work your hardest to make sure you get accepted into that university. Your main goal is to go attend the university then you will try your hardest to get there. You are going to be too focused on making it there that you have no time to goof off and do wrong. That is why I think he made the second sentence. He said that if you do the right thing you're going to succeed and if you follow your dreams they are going to lead you to more success. I will dream to complete this year with great achievements and this here statement is going to my motivator.

Phillip Rigg’s Four Success Tips
  1. Work Hard
  2. Follow your passions. Do things you are interested in doing.
  3. Don’t chase after money.
  4. Serve others. Do good things to others, and good things will come to you.
The grammy award winning music director, Philip Rigg, gave us four tips of advice that are going to lead us to success. The first he said to work hard and that is something everyone should do to achieve their goals. I believe, that there is no way for you to achieve your goals if you do not work hard towards them. I think that the second tip is the hardest because I don’t know what to do. I am very passionate for several things but I can’t figure out what exactly I’m good at. The third tip is also something that I have been taught to live by. I was always told that money Isn’t the answer but it does open a lot of doors. So, money is not everything to me because I know that what makes me happy doesn’t always get me paid. The last one might be the one most relevant to me, only because I love doing charity work. I do give back to people and my community but bad things always seem to happen to me but I have learned to accept them as good things. An example of these four tips would be key club. Being a part of key club’s board I have to be on top of a lot of things to ensure the success of it. I also have to like doing it because If I’m not enjoying it it makes it harder for the others to do so too. Doing service events I have to do things without getting paid and I love doing charity work. It gives you the satisfaction to really love what you do. I will continue to use these tips.

“The most important thing you will ever have is good values.”
By: Dennis Prager

The most important things that you will ever have are good morals along with values. These good values will open many doors for you. You may be asking yourself how to acquire such good values, well the answer is quite simple. You just have to know what is right. You have to choose what is right everyday and little by little you will realize that you have become a person who follows the values of life. You will be honest, lively, and overall a good character. Like stated in the past people are more attracted to people with good moral values. You will most likely get more job offers and things of that sort. I will look more into him and live by this.

“ In any moment of decision, the best thing you could do is the right thing.”
By: Theodore Roosevelt
When it comes to choosing the right many will say they will or that they already do. I belief that that is not always the answer to everyone’s questions. That is surely the answer to most of my decisions but not all. Sometimes I do really reckless things without thinking and that shouldn’t be my primary response. When I have to think of something I’m very lenient and accept the consequences but do regret it. For example, one time I had to make the decision to simply tell my sister that it’s wrong to leave her plate in our room, because that was the right thing to do. Instead if doing so, I decided to throw the plate to her bed and it just so happened that it hit her in the knee. I felt so bad because I didn’t want to throw it at her just her bed. That is a perfect example of what this statement is telling us not to do. I should have told her to take her plate to the kitchen rather than throwing it at her. Although it was the wrong thing to do, I accepted the consequences, which were having to tell her sorry, but that made my conscience suffer a little bit. Now whenever I see her on her bed or eating in our room my conscience reminds me of my wrong actions. I sure wish I would have thought of this statement back then but now I know. With the knowledge of this statement I will now think twice of what is right to do and do it.

“ Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong.”
By: Wilford Woodruff
Like Mr. Woodruff said, nothing good is EVER gained from doing wrong. The only thing that is earned is a bad reputation. I believe that because people will associate your name from that wrongdoing. You have to know what it means to be good and that means to have a good reputation. You have to be clear from all those negative things that can be out in your record. The reason for that is because if you do something bad it's going to prevent you from getting a job going to conventions. An example I could think of for this statement is just that. If you ever want to go to a convention, as an adviser, you have to get a background check. If you were a reckless teen and drove drunk and accidentally hit someone that doesn’t only go in your record but you also get a DUI and maybe face time if it was that bad. That is why you have to steer clear from such actions that can mess with your future. A bad action like that can keep you from reaching your goals and leaves with nothing good. I will incorporate this into my daily life because I see it as something necessary in life. You don’t want anything bad happening to you therefore you will only do good.

“It’s A GREAT MOMENT when someone has character to step up and do the right thing at the right time.”
by : Pam Knox

Whenever you are faced with a situation where you have to choose between the right or wrong there should be no question as to what is right. You should choose the right all the time. That is why you have to always keep an eye for what isn’t right. You could make sure that when you see something wrong you need to, as a CTR person, make it right. An example I could think of is related to bullying. If you see that someone is getting bullied don’t just stand there and do nothing you have to make sure that the victim is okay. You have to go up and talk it out or even stand up to them. I know that the chances of someone actually getting to experience this is not great but that's why you have to do it when the time comes. If you are placed in that position, don’t waste time and take action to do what is right. I’ll make sure to do this because I know it’s right.

“I have been asked what I mean by ‘word of honor.’ I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls-walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground- there is a possibility that one way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I’d die first.”
By: Karl G. MAESER
This is a very long and wordy statement by the professor. To concise what he is trying to say, is that you should keep your word no matter how silly or insignificant it may seem to other people. If you tell someone that you are going to do something then you need to make sure to keep your word no matter how small it may seem. Like his example was comparing a prison and a chalk circle. The difference is the level in which society sees these two. Jail is seen as this system that is highly secure and respected by others. A circle made from chalk is nothing most people will just step on it like a crack in the sidewalk, and that is why he uses that. To show that no matter how insignificant you use your word for it is still important. It is a good way of letting people know that you are a good person and will keep your word regardless of the circumstances. That is what I have interpreted from this statement. I would like to use a parent and a friend. If you tell your mom that you are going to the movies and she lets you go you have to go to the movies. If your friend decides to go to the park then you have to say no because you asked to go to the movies not the park. It may seem little but you gave your word so you have to follow through.
