“ I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he is wrong.”
By: Abraham Lincoln
I see the truth behind this student success statement and see that it is applicable in my life. I can see that he is saying that you should never take a part of anything bad or sides with anyone like that. Then he goes on to talk about taking the side of the person who is right. He tells us this because he wants us to know that there will be a time where we have to chose between the good and the bad. An example I can think for this is school. In school you decide who you want to be friends with. You decide if you want to be friends with the bullies or with good people. It is up to you. You are going to chose who you are going to surround yourself and that will allow you to shape who you are as a person. That decision will determine whether you win or lose. You will lose because you chose the wrong and hang out with those bullies. IF you chose the right and hang out with people who do the right you will win. You will win because you have developed a good character and that is all that matters. If you're a good person then good things will come to you . That is what I think Lincoln is trying to say when he said that he is not bound to win. He says how it is not known if he is going to win or not. He knows that if he surrounds himself with bad people he will not be destined to win, but if he surrounds himself with people who are right then he will be right and win. I see will continue to keep this statement in mind.
