“ Associate yourself with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for ‘tis better to be alone than in bad company.”
George Washington
If you hang out with bad people you will become a bad person. It may seem like a bad conclusion, but it is far more like the truth than an idea. See, I believe that people will eventually adapt to their surroundings and that has been proven true by science. If I hang around with ignorant people I’m going to adapt to their way of doing things because they are my surroundings. It is inevitable to become like them because my surroundings and environment influence my decisions too. For example, If it’s raining outside I’m going to decide to wear a coat rather than a short sleeved shirt. If I moved to a state where rain was very common then my life will change and I’ll have more coats than anything else. My life altered because I moved to a place where the weather was different. I believe that this quote also fits in with my idea of environment changing people. If i had bad friends then they are going to do bad things. I'm going to be with them, because they are my friends, while they are doing these bad things. That means that I’m going to become a part of the bad things they are doing. That will make me a bad person because I do bad. The complete opposite is to hang with smarter, diligent students. They will encourage me to do good rather than do bad. Like Washington said in his statement, “ ‘ tis better to be alone than in bad company.” This means that it is better to stay away from those bad people and prevent trouble. I agree with this statement. I did have bad friends and i was told to stay away from them and as time went on I’m glad that life happened so that I realized that they really were bad influences.
