Duties and Responsibilities: A fashion designer will create new article of clothing as well as accessories and footwear. They also take part in the sketching process and the fabric selections. The way they select fabrics is by visiting the fabric manufacturers and getting samples of the fabric and then it is up to them which they use. They then have to instruct their staff on how to make the desired product. Before anything fashion designers have to study the upcoming trades as well as make the clothing appealing for the client. They do this by running fashion shows to showcase their work. Fashion designers also have to use digital systems like the CAD (computer-aided design) to create their designs after having decided on the theme of their collection.
Salary: Fashion designers will get paid an average of $63,670 a year.
Education: The basic and most common degree that fashion designers have is a bachelor's in Fashion designing or Fashion merchandising. There, they learn how to use technology to help them do their work digitally. They can then add any of their projects to their portfolio and begin to work. Apart from an education, fashion designers have to be creative and have large amounts of patients.
Demand for this profession: The demand for a fashion designer is growing at 3% but is much slower than usual.
