St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s day is a day where Saint Patrick is celebrated. This celebration will occur in several parts of the world on March 17. That is the day of his death. St. Patrick is the patron saint from Ireland. When he was 16 he was kidnapped by Irish raiders. He was said to have lived in Ireland for so many years that he learned their language and customs. He claimed to have had a dream where God spoke to him saying, “ Your ship is ready,” and the day after he was able to escape by ship. He then claimed to have another dream where he received a letter and when he opened it it was all the people who had met begging for him to come back. St. Patrick then returned and talked to the people about God. His teachings took awhile for people to adopt but they did and even though it was risky he continued to do so. He was also known to have vanished all the snakes from Ireland but that may be an effect of exaggerated storytelling. People wear green because it was believed to make you invisible to leprechauns and leprechauns were known to pinch anyone they saw. So today people pinch you as a reminder that if you don’t wear green you are going to get pinched by a leprechaun.
